How To Manage Eating Habits on Eid

Following the days of fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan, one of the most awaited and celebrated times of the year comes by is, Eid-ul-Azha. It depicts celebration, happiness and joy for everyone in the Muslim world. Eid-ul-Azha is the feast to enjoy by greeting relatives and relishing with variety of foods and sweets. Of course, the Eid-ul-Azha celebration wouldn’t be complete without all the signature foods and cuisines of Eid.
In Ramadan, the human body is set at an equilibrium state with having food at only particular times of the day. On Eid, a sudden change to a different and unhealthy eating pattern can lead to health problems and ruin all the fun and celebrations of this wonderful event. Here are some ways to stay healthy on Eid days.
Light Breakfast
Start off your day with a light breakfast. Breakfast is out of routine for near a whole month, and stocking yourself up at breakfast can give a heavy feeling the whole day round. Keep it restricted with a glass of milk, two slices of bread and anything else that is low, preferably zero, in fat content.
Refrain From Junk Food
Refraining from junk food can be helpful. Right after Ramadan, we tend to load ourselves up with all sorts of foods, especially fast food, that we missed while fasting the day long. This can result in a sudden in increase in our cholesterol level that can lead to various ailments, including high blood pressure in some patients. Aim for healthy homemade food for some days till you get used to the daily routine.
Eating Light Food
Eat light the whole day round. Follow up the whole day with a glass of water after every hour or two to keep you fresh and active. Have a rather dietary lunch and go easy on the fried stuff. Do not overeat as it might result in an upset stomach afterwards. Also abstain from consuming fatty foods and loads of carbonated beverages.
Eating In Smaller Proportions
As one tends to visit (or gets visited by) number of friends and relatives, it is helpful to eat in smaller proportions. It speeds up your digestion and allows space to check out the variety of food offered!
Having Low Sweets On Eid Day
None of the Eids are complete without having sweets specialty. Vermicelli and other sweets make the festival complete and one can’t get through without loading up with all of them. On Eid, it is better to modify the sweet recipes by lowering the sugar and fat content in them. This can prove very accommodating owing to the variety of dishes one consumes during the whole day.
Having Food On Iftari Time
It is better to time your meals near the iftari time. This will gradually help the body to get used to the normal daily routine. The body is not used to consuming food the whole day round and altering that routine can be bad for health.
